Solar Photo Voltaic (PV) Systems


MrSola believes that our residential target market places a high priority on the security of electricity supply to essential accessories in their homes. We, therefore, offer a grid-tie system with battery back-up as a standard item.


MrSola offers PV Installations on a 7 year Rent-to-Own. During this period, we maintain these systems free of charge. It is therefore important that we install products that have proven quality, performance, reliability and after-sales service.


NERSA (National Energy Regulator of South Africa), as well as safety requirements by local authorities, makes it compulsory to register all PV installations. All grid-tied systems have to be designed and approved by a Registered Engineer. A grid-tie PV installation may not be a nett supplier of electricity into the grid – in other words you are not allowed to generate more than what you consume.


For grid-tied systems (including hybrid systems), the property owner must submit an application for approval. Design diagrams, signed off by a Registered Engineer, has to be included in this application. Installation of a PV system can only start once this approval has been given by the City Council. On completion of the installation, it needs to be signed off again by a Registered Engineer and, together with a COC, submitted to the City Councill for approval to connect the PV installation to the grid.



MrSola uses specialised rigging teams to install solar panels on roofs. We believe that care should be taken that the extra load factor of solar panels and mounting frames do not compromise the roof structure. MrSola uses “Green Star” certified electricians for solar PV installations. The normal duration of a residential installation will be 2 days.



MrSola backs technology and therefore we only install Lithium-Ion Batteries. Li-ion batteries, although more expensive, have the following benefits over lead acid batteries:

  • Quick charge times ensure that rolling Phase 5 load shedding can be handled.
  • Much longer productive battery life with the ability of deeper cycling.
  • Li-ion batteries are safer and do not require special, well-ventilated areas.
  • Li-ion batteries are much more space and weight efficient.
